How to choose a solar EPC company in Gujarat (without getting burned)

The independent checklist no EPC will give you — because they wrote the other ones.

Search “best solar EPC company in Gujarat” and almost every result is a list written by an EPC ranking itself. That is the core problem: the people advising you are the people selling to you. As advisors who build nothing and take no EPC commission, here is the checklist we actually use to evaluate contractors for our clients.

01

1. Track record — built, not just bid

Ask for commissioned MW in the last 3 years, with locations and the discom/offtaker. A long “projects” list often mixes bid wins, sub-contracts and rooftop kW with real ground-mount MW. Visit one operating plant if you can.

02

2. Financial strength

A thinly capitalised EPC that fails mid-project is the most expensive risk in solar. Check audited turnover, net worth and bank guarantees they can actually furnish. GUVNL’s own bid route demands ~₹92.8 lakh/MW net worth for a reason.

03

3. The BOQ — get it in writing, then verify it

The single biggest fraud in solar is BOQ substitution: tier-1 modules quoted, cheaper panels, thinner cables and undersized structures installed. Insist on a detailed Bill of Quantities with make and model numbers — and an independent check at delivery (EL testing, pull-out tests).

  • ALMM-listed modules (mandatory for most projects; List-II cells from June 2026)
  • Tier-1 inverters with local service
  • Galvanised structures sized for your wind zone
  • Cable sizing and earthing per design, not cost
04

4. Contract terms that protect you

A fair EPC contract has teeth: liquidated damages for delay and PR shortfall, 5–10% retention until the Final Acceptance Certificate, a performance bank guarantee, and a clearly-defined Performance Ratio test per IEC 61724. Undefined PR methodology is the #1 dispute in Indian solar.

05

5. O&M and warranties

Who maintains the plant after handover, at what cost, and with what availability guarantee (98–99% is standard)? Confirm the MNRE-mandated 10-year product and 25-year performance module warranty flows through to you in writing.

A verified BOQ backed by independent quality checks. Price matters, but a cheap quote that substitutes lower-grade equipment costs you far more across 25 years than it saves upfront.
